Safeguard Microplex Blood Panel

The Safeguard Microplex Blood Panel offers several advantages to classical blood cultures, with rapid and more accurate identifications, including fastidious and slow-growing organisms. It also offers detection of a wider population of bacteria than other molecular products available as clinical diagnostics and is significantly less expensive.

Safeguard Microplex Blood Panel is a qualitative multiplexed nucleic acid-based in vitro diagnostic test intended for the simultaneous detection and identification of multiple bacterial nucleic acids from Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms in whole blood from patients presenting with symptoms of bacteremia or Candidemia, all-in-one reaction.

The test involves cell lysis, DNA extraction, PCR amplification and hybridization on a microarray. Results are analyzed from fluorescent signals representing specific DNA probes to identify 54 microorganisms in a single hybridization.  After detection and identification in the Microarray, a reflex test of Antibiotic Resistance Genes can be performed on the same extracted DNA.
